The Angel Shark Project Team 

The Angel Shark Project is a collaboration between three european Partners: The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koenig (ZFMK) and The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), that have created a dedicated project to safeguard the future of Critically Endangered angel sharks throughout their natural range. Funded in 2014, the Angel Shark Project Team has grown into a network of collaborators.

Eva Meyers (ZFMK )

Eva has co-designed the Angel Shark Project and leads on research activities. She has many years of experience working in the research and global conservation of sharks and rays. For the last years she has co-managed the Angel Shark Project and focused her research on angel sharks in the Canary Islands.

Joanna Barker (ZSL)

Joanna has worked for ZSL for the last three years and co-designed the Angel Shark Project. She has extensive experience managing conservation projects, completing research on Critically Endangered species, engaging citizen scientists for conservation and using innovative ways to raise awareness of conservation issues.

Dr. David Jimenez Alvarado (ULPGC)

David has focused his research on the impact of recreational fisheries in the Canary Islands. He is also a PADI qualified Dive Master and has been diving with angel sharks in the Canary Islands for the last sixteen years. He has been leading our engagement with the sportfishing community to reduce angel shark mortality in the region.
