In april 2014, the University of las Palmas has initiated the Programa Poseidon , to monitor marine biodiversity in the Canary Islands via an online tool ePOSEIDON.

Considering the critical status of Angel Sharks worldwide, ZSL and ULPGC have started to collaborate to protect the last remaining population stronghold in the Canary Islands.

The Angel Shark Project has successfully recruited members of the recreational SCUBA diving community in the Canary Islands as citizen scientist. SCUBA divers in the entire archipelago are reporting sightings of Angel Sharks to the ePOSEIDON database and helping ULPGC scientists to obtain vital data on their ecology.

The main objective of this project is to implement effective conservation measures for this last healthy Angel Shark population. However, to do so, basic ecological data of this shark species is needed.

NOW we want to involve the Sportfishing community to be part of this project and to help with the protection of this species.
